With eight years in the industry at the age of 23 and an Emmy already under her belt, actress Anne Winters is “not in Kansas anymore”; or should I say Texas. Hailing from Dallas, Winters is quickly garnering attention while nabbing some coveted roles. Last year was a huge launching pad for her career as it continues to take shape. She is most known for her lead role as “Mia” on go90’s series Zac & Mia which is currently available for streaming and gearing up for season two. Her performance as Mia has gained positive attention from both fans and critics alike and quickly earned her the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Digital Daytime Drama Series. However, her lead role in the 2017 indie horror comedy Mom and Dad also starring the ever-sporadic Nicolas Cage certainly proved to be a hit with horror hounds. But she is following previous successes with another dazzling year of entertainment. While reprising her award-winning role of Mia, she also has some huge new projects coming up.
On May 18th, the follow-up season to the acclaimed show 13 Reasons Why will be available to stream on Netflix. Winters can be seen playing the new character of “Chloe”. Judging from the trailers, it appears that she may have a close connection with a certain character from last season. Despite being a new addition to the cast, the material isn’t new to her.
“I’ve actually read the book, so I’ve been a fan of 13 Reasons Why for a while. The first season is amazing…it [season two] will answer some questions from the first season. It’s going to be talking a lot about justice…it’s going to kind of explore Bryce’s storyline…Bryce is one of the main characters I’ll be acting with in season two,” Winters admitted. “I’m going to be representing a complete different side to rape culture and just like the different themes we saw in season one but just a different take on it. A little less black and white of what’s right and wrong…”
But as exciting as the upcoming season is for fans of the show, she is also appearing in a major studio film starring arguably the biggest and most bankable name in comedy today; Kevin Hart. The anticipated comedy Night School is set to release in September. She can be seen as “Mila” stuck in a classroom with Hart. But when you’re working with a rapid-fire comedic tornado as the leading man, it can be impossible to keep it together. As laughter took over, she tried her best to keep it in between takes.
“There was definitely some scenes in the classroom when Kevin [Hart] would just go off on a rant and every time it would be something different so it was like you never knew it was coming. You just went with it…and you never knew what he was going to say,” she explained. “It’s my big first Universal picture…everyone is on SNL [Saturday Night Live] or has been on SNL on that cast. It was honestly just so fun. I was laughing every day and being on set with them is really hard to keep it together when the cameras are rolling…the movie’s just going to be hilarious.”
As busy as she is working in LA, she manages to stay true to her inner Texan when she’s not busy being a film and TV star. Instead of giving into the glamor and extravagance, she remains to be jean shorts and t-shirt kind of woman rocking a pair of cowboy boots on a near daily basis. She is currently in the process of allowing LA to become her new home base.
“Right now I’m so busy with getting a house. I just became a homeowner in LA…I love taking advantage of all that LA has to offer. I love the beach…Malibu is my favorite getaway spot that’s close…there’s not much free time the more you work…you got to make work fun,” she said.
As she is settling into the LA lifestyle, Anne Winters is continuing to search for the next big opportunity. The projects are getting bigger and so is her name. Television has been kind to her so far. Currently in the pilot stage, her next endeavor has just been promoted to a series with the first season airing later this year.
“...My pilot that Eva Longoria is doing. It’s for ABC and it’s called Grand Hotel. It’s based off of a Spanish series on Netflix. It’s such an amazing show, such an amazing pilot...That’ll start airing probably when Night School comes out…September would be a big month,” she announced.
