Ava Kolker is a rising star with a promising career. Ava is solidifying her acting chops as a fan-favorite on Disney network starring in "Sydney to the Max", and previously "Girl Meets World". Currently, the talented teen is taking her love of music to the next level, as an artist. Ava Kolker shares with UNpopular Style Magazine her latest single, style, and what keeps her going strong.
Congrats on the success of " Sydney to the Max". Tell us more about how you may or
may not relate to your character "Olive" ?
Thank you so much. I can relate to Olive because I feel like she’s true to who she is and doesn’t try to impress anyone. She’s loyal to her best friend and prioritizes and cherishes her friendships. But I also can’t relate to Olive as she is passionate about being the president of the safety committee and loves math above all other subjects, that’s definitely not me, lol!
If possible, can you tell us if the show has been renewed?
Yes, we were actually the first show in Disney Channel history to be renewed for Season 3 while still filming season 2, before Season 2 even aired. So we’re very excited about that. We will start filming season 3 in March already.
Style
How would you describe your everyday style? Any style obsessions? i.e. (lip gloss,
heels, etc.)
Right now, I am into Brandy Melville, fun ripped jeans, sweatshirts, designer Ts. And I just started my own fashion line with fashion designer Pol Atteu, so I’m super excited about that. It’s called Ava By Pol Atteu.
Professional wardrobe stylists contribute to artists overall look, but how involved are you towards how you'd like to present yourself?
I think style definitely evolves and I always update my stylist on how what I may have liked 6 months ago, I am not into now. I always like to present comfortable, a little edgy, and fun. I try to mix it up on the red carpet with some beautiful 2 pieces so I am learning and trying new things.
Music
What inspired you to decide now is the time to pursue your passion for music?
I have always loved music. I was in musical theater since I was 5 years old, and absolutely loved to sing on stage. When I met 2 incredible songwriters, Peter Zizzo and Francis Galluccio, it all fell into place and I decided to go for it, and write my own music with them. I loved the process even more than I expected to. So I want to continue to grow as an artist slowly but put out music that is meaningful and true to my heart in the moment.
"Eventually" is your new single, what do you want listeners to take away from the music?
For me, 'eventually' just meant to not rush into a relationship. I am still young, and even though I might like someone so much, I realize that I should wait, build a strong friendship and foundation and “eventually” transition that into a relationship if the feelings are still there in a few years (2023)! My parents were friends for 10 years before they got married and I would love to have a relationship like theirs so I think it makes sense to be friends with someone first, go through ups and downs with them, and make sure they have the character you are looking for before taking it further.
Besides yourself, If you had to choose to listen to 1 artist for 24hrs, who would it be and why?
It would definitely be Harry Styles. He’s had incredible hits and he’s such a cool artist. I love listening to him.
If a fan took over your music playlist, what would they be surprised to see and hear?
They might be surprised to hear Black Bear but I love his music!
Future Projects
Let us know what projects you are involved in that your supporters can look forward to? Are you working on an EP/Album, collaborations? Acting?
Well, with respect to acting, Sydney to the Max is going to take all my time this year, so I will be focusing on that, and super excited about Season 3. I am working on an EP and will hopefully be writing a couple more songs in March/April. I have some ideas about what I want to write about so I am looking forward to taking that on.
How do you balance it all? How do you recharge?
I spend a lot of family time when I am not working. I like to do martial arts, spin classes, and I love to travel. Now that I have a little time off, my family is planning a few trips so that always helps me fully recharge before I go back to work. I love exploring new places and having quality time.
