Raheem Davaughn: The Love Reunion, His Own Record Label, And Giving Back

Updated: Jul 17, 2019

Back with his 7th studio album, Grammy nominated, R&B crooner-Raheem Devaughn takes us on what he calls "Part 2" of the Decade of A Love King journey, with"The Love Reunion" album. Raheem talks about what listeners can expect from the new album: "It's consistent, but you'll definitely hear growth." As usual, Raheem likes to keep to his formula that works with limited guest features, but heavy production contributions from Tim & Bob [Powerhouse Productions]. The singer’s faithful core audience will get the sound they love to hear from Devaughn. “I live in the 90’s he says, as he describes his overall music experience, but acknowledges the fact that music and culture is ever changing. You can’t live in the present and not acknowledge the present-the current state that we’re in.” The younger generation loves great music just as previous age groups, so paying respect to both is how he would describe “Millennium R&B”. With over 10 years of music recorded, Raheem Devaughn can honestly satisfy both quality and quantity areas of music- this is how he maintains his relevance in the industry.

Although all tracks on The Love Album are his favorites, “Kiss By The Sun”, “Just Right”, and “Rose Gold” are distinctively noted. "The whole album is crazy, why give you 13 tracks if you’re only going to like 2. You should be able to listen to an album all the way through."

During the past couple weeks, thousands gathered for the annual Essence Festival. Like many, Raheem Devaughn joined the festivities as a guest host and performer. “I love the vibe, that’s the cool thing about Essence, it’s a melting pot of great Black music. It’s Black music excellence weekend, it’s a celebration.”

Aside from music, Davaughn takes his charitable efforts very seriously, securing scholarship funding for his non-profit-”The Love Life Foundation.” The foundation is currently getting students ready for the Fall semester. Finding housing for displaced Los Angeles residents and HIV/Aids awareness and assistance are also charity priorities.

The future is busy for Raheem Davaugh as he is building his own record label empire. He anticipates nurturing the careers of other artists, keeping alive the sound that music lovers expect from him. A string of artists he collaborates with and mentors will be a part of projects he calls “Raheem Devaughn Events”. Acting is also a craft he is continuing to develop. "Love Dot Com” is the latest film supporters can look out for.
